Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez – the spirit and emotion of these words alone reveal the breath-taking spectacle that takes place on the Côte d'Azur each September. This highlight at the end of each sailing season attracts more than 300 yachts, spanning all sizes and ages. Majestic J-Class yachts, which competed for the America's Cup in the early 20th century, make a spectacular sight as they go head to head in an unrivalled assembly of classic yachts, their gleaming varnish and sweeping lines drawing admirers from all over the world. At the same time, the most contemporary, state-of-the-art carbon fibre racing machines dazzle onlookers with their efficiency and power as they speed silently across the water.
First run as La Nioulargue over 25 years ago, born out of passion and friendship, the regatta was founded following a challenge between two keen sailors who held an impromptu race between Saint-Tropez and Club 55 in Pampelonne. Their spirit of competitiveness and camaraderie remains, and the values of tradition, teamwork and fair play still live on and are shared by all participants.
This extraordinary sailing event ususally marks the end of a spectacular sailing season.
