The BMW Dragon Gold Cup will take place in Marstrand, Sweden, from August 5th  to 13th. BMW is Title Sponsor of the 10th international Dragon regatta. The event is organised by the Royal Gothenburg Yacht Club, which is celebrating its 150th anniversary in 2010.

“For BMW and our Gothenburg dealer this is an excellent chance to combine highly competitive sailing with the sportiness and the joy that is so specific also for our brand. The Dragon class attracts people who want to take things a bit further. And to do it in a place like Marstrand is the perfect setting,” says Christer Stahl MD at BMW Sweden.

The Dragon class is one of the most popular one-design keel boats in the world and many successful Olympic yachtsmen and women compete in Dragon regattas. The 2010 BMW Dragon Gold Cup also features HRH Denmark's Prince Henrik and HRH Crown Prince Frederik.

Boats from throughout Europe will participate with representation from example Denmark, Lithuania and Russia. The line up presents in total 16 different nations including USA and guests all the way from Australia and Hong Kong. In total, 100 yachts are expected.

Alongside excellent sailing, the BMW Dragon Gold Cup also offers an interesting programme for competitors and spectators. The highlight of the regatta is the Regatta party at the "Societetshuset" in Marstrand, which will be attended by members of the Swedish and Danish royal families.

The island of Marstrand is not only a popular tourist destination, but also a true Mecca for sailing. The waters have been an important venue for international regattas for over a hundred years. Thanks to a reliable sea breeze in the afternoon, the open sea to the west of Marstrand is treated to excellent sailing conditions.
