With BMW on board, ORACLE TEAM USA is gunning for a “three-peat”.

After BMW ORACLE Racing brought the America’s Cup back to the United States in 2010, Larry Ellison’s team completed probably the most impressive comeback in sporting history at the 34th America’s Cup in San Francisco. The defending champions trailed challenger New Zealand 1:8, but fought back to win 9:8. The goal now is to complete the hat-trick of titles off Bermuda in 2017, with BMW as Technology Partner.

A multiple world champion in both fleet and match racing, Spithill is both the youngest helmsman to compete for the America’s Cup (with Young Australia in 1999 at the age of 19) as well as the youngest skipper (with BMW ORACLE Racing in 2010 at the age of 30) to claim sailing’s ultimate prize. After his second America’s Cup triumph in 2013, James "Jimmy" Spithill was named “ISAF Rolex World Sailor of the Year”.

By the time he turned 30, Tom Slingsby had already won eight world titles, an Olympic gold medal (Laser, 2012), an America’s Cup (2013) and the title “ISAF World Sailor of the Year” (2010). The fact that the Australian was the first yachtsman to be retained for the 35th America’s Cup by ORACLE TEAM USA shows how highly regarded Slingsby is.

Sam Newton, part of ORACLE TEAM USA since 2011, is aiming for his second America’s Cup win in 2017. Growing up close to the harbour of Sydney he won titles in many different classes. His achievements include six wins at the JJ Giltinan Trophy, the most important regatta for the spectacular 18-foot Skiffs, as well as taking first places at the Sydney-Hobart Race on board of „Wild Oats IX“ and „TP52 Quest“.

Every man forges his own destiny. Therefore Kinley Fowler traveled to the America’s Cup World Series at Venice in 2012 to offer ORACLE TEAM USA his services for there Shore Team. Fowler, who gained a lot of experience during the Match Racing World Championship and the Extreme Sailing Series, was able to convince those responsible and earned himself a save spot as trimmer and grinder.

Kyle Langford only ever had one goal: to become a professional sailor. He never had a back-up plan. As such, the Australian squared up to the challenge when, just days before the 34th America’s Cup, he was thrust into the challenging and important role of wing trimmer and was an integral part of ORACLE TEAM USA’s legendary comeback win.
